If you are tired of constantly shaving, waxing, or dealing with ingrown hair and hyperpigmentation, laser hair removal is for you!

Laser hair removal is the most effective, convenient, and long-lasting solution to eliminate unwanted hair on your body, including facial hair caused by PCOS.

Laser hair removal is a process that uses light energy and heat to target and destroy hair follicles, inhibiting or delaying future hair growth. It’s important to understand that hair grows in three phases: the anagen phase, the catagen phase, and the telogen phase. Laser treatment only works on hair follicles in the anagen phase, when hair is actively growing. Typically, only 10% of hair follicles are in this phase at any given time. As a result, multiple laser hair removal sessions are needed to target as many hair follicles as possible to achieve long-lasting results. Generally, you will need 8-10 treatments spaced every 4-8 weeks.

Laser hair removal has existed since the 1960s, and as of 2024, no studies show any links to cancer, infertility, or any major health problem. Laser is safe, noninvasive, and does not penetrate beyond the layers of the skin.

With our machine and expertise, you will see noticeable-significant results with your 1st treatment, and by your 3rd treatment, your hair will become less of a concern.

It’s crucial to note that not every medspa or clinic will deliver noticeable results with laser hair removal. To actually get excellent, long-lasting results, you need what we call the LASER EQUATION, which comprises 3 key factors.

  • Firstly, you need the right machine for your skin type. The wrong laser device will not only waste your time and money and leave you with no results, but it will also increase your chances of unwanted complications.
  • Secondly, you need a well-trained and reputable healthcare provider with experience treating your skin type. This is important because the right machine in the wrong hands can lead to disastrous outcomes.
  • Lastly, but equally important, you must carefully follow all the pre and post-treatment instructions. These instructions are vital for achieving the desired outcome. See below for instructions.

At Ojima Beauty, we use the industry’s most powerful and no.1 dermatologist-recommended laser hair removal machine for people of color, the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus – Nd:YAG. We also have Alexandrite wavelength for lighter skin tones, Fitzpatrick 1-3.

When done correctly, your only regret with laser hair removal is not starting sooner.

Effective laser hair removal is a game changer, and we can’t wait for you to experience it.

OUR PROCESS/WHAT TO EXPECT

The first part of our process is a virtual consultation. This is when we provide detailed information about the service, learn how we can best serve you, answer all your questions, and customize a treatment plan for you.

You are required to shave 24 hours before your treatment sessions, and you come with clean, thoroughly washed skin, no skincare products or anything applied to the treatment areas.

Treatment sessions are quick. Small areas like the underarms take about 5-10 minutes, medium areas like the face and Brazillian take about 20 minutes, and legs 30-45 minutes.

After your treatment, a soothing skin care product will be applied.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

  • Please avoid direct sun exposure to the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before your appointment.
  • Use a physical/mineral sunscreen with an SPF of 50+ daily, whether indoors or outdoors. Here’s our recommendation.
  • No tanning beds 4 weeks before your treatment.
  • No waxing, plucking, epilators, threading, bleaching, or depilatory creams in the desired treatment area(s) 4 weeks before your appointment.
  • Shaving is the only acceptable form of hair removal before your treatment. The laser targets the hair roots, which are temporarily displaced by other hair removal methods and will render treatment ineffective. Please shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment to ensure the best result.
  • No makeup or skin care products in the treatment area. Clean the treatment area with soap and water only before your appointment.
  • Discontinue products containing Retinol, Retin-A (tretinoin), hydroquinone, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic, or anti-aging products, dark spots/hyperpigmentation products, or any prescription skin care products in the treatment area 1 week before and after your treatment.
  • Individuals on Accutane  (Isotretinoin), a prescription medication used to treat certain skin conditions, must be off for at least 6-9 months before laser hair removal.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Do not wear tight clothing 3 days after your treatment, as this can irritate the treated skin.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 3 days after your laser treatment.
  • Avoid exercise, swimming, hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms 3 days after your treatment. Stick to cool or lukewarm water.
  • Continue with sunscreen daily
  • Do not pick at or scratch the treated area. This can irritate the skin.
  • If there is no irritation or redness, start exfoliating your skin one week after your treatment. Exfoliate 3-4 times a week to prevent ingrown hair. We recommend a dry brush for exfoliating. No chemical exfoliants.
  • In 1-2 weeks, the treated hair will fall out. It will appear as if your hair is growing back, but don’t panic; it is just the purging phase. After purging comes smooth skin.
  • No waxing, plucking, threading, bleaching, or depilatory creams after your treatment – only shaving.

Frequentiy Asked Questions

Hair has many functions. It keeps us warm, reduces friction on our skin, gives us a unique scent and pheromone, and holds on to sweat. Many of us miss out on these benefits because we remove our hair through various methods like shaving or waxing. We also conceal the unique scent of our hair by using perfumes and deodorants. If you have never removed your hair before, we suggest you start with traditional hair removal methods such as shaving or waxing to see if you like being hair-free before trying laser. However, if you prefer to be hair-free and frequently shave or wax, laser hair removal will provide long-lasting results and revolutionize your grooming routine.

Lasers have been around since the 1960s. As of 2024, there is no evidence that they cause major health problems like infertility or cancer. This is because laser treatments are surface-level and don’t penetrate beyond the second layer of the skin. This means they can’t reach any other organs, including reproductive organs. According to the FDA, lasers behave much like ordinary light in their interaction with the body. Lasers heat hair roots to a temperature that inhibits or delays future hair growth. That being said, laser treatments can have potential complications like burns, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.
For this reason, it’s important to choose a reputable healthcare provider who uses the right machine for you and has experience treating your skin type. Following pre and post-treatment instructions can also help reduce the risks associated with laser treatments. Laser hair removal is generally safe, and at Ojima Beauty, we take safety precautions seriously and have implemented protocols to reduce laser risks.

The quick answer is yes, BUT the machine used for your treatment and who is performing your treatments will determine your result; that’s if you get any results.

At Ojima Beauty, we use the most powerful laser hair removal machine for people of color, the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, Nd:YAG. We also have an Alexandrite wavelength for lighter skin tones, Fitzpatrick 1-3.

It’s crucial to note that not every medspa or clinic will deliver noticeable results with laser hair removal. To actually get excellent, long-lasting results, you need what we call the LASER EQUATION. You need the right machine for your skin type, a provider with experience treating your skin type, and you must follow all the instructions.

With our machine and expertise, you will see noticeable-significant results with your 1st treatment, and by your 3rd treatment, your hair will become less of a concern.

Our laser treatments are designed to be tolerable by utilizing a cooling spray called cryogen. Our clients have reported that the treatment is less painful than waxing, threading, or plucking. However, if you have zero pain tolerance, we suggest not scheduling your appointments 3 days before or after your period. During your periods, your skin is more sensitive, which may result in more pain.kin is more sensitive during your periods, and you will experience more pain.

Hair grows in 3 phases: the anagen phase, the catagen phase, and the telogen phase.

Treatment sessions are quick. Small areas, such as the upper lip and underarm, take 5-10 min. Medium areas like the face and brazillian areas take about 20 minutes. Large areas, such as the legs, can take 30-45 minutes.

Most individuals with any skin type can successfully use laser hair removal to remove unwanted body hair. However, since laser  targets dark or brown hair pigment, it is ineffective in removing red, grey, blonde, or white hair.

If you’re considering laser hair removal, you’ll be happy to know that our 24-month payment plan can make it as affordable as $45 per month depending on the area you want to treat. You may also qualify for 0% interest. In the long run, laser hair removal is more cost-effective than waxing. For example, instead of paying $60-$80 every 6 weeks to wax your legs forever, you can pay a fraction of that cost to remove your unwanted hair with laser. To learn more about our pricing, please check out the pricing section for the area(s) you’re interested in.

The interval between treatments will vary depending on the hair growth cycle and location. For the face, treatment is every 4 weeks, the Brazilian area every 4-6 weeks, and the legs every 8 weeks. If multiple body areas are involved, we will create an individualized treatment schedule for you. Completing the recommended number of treatments and following the suggested interval is crucial for optimal results.

The side effects of laser treatments differ from person to person. To help our clients minimize these effects, we offer aftercare instructions. The most typical side effects are redness, mild swelling, itching, or the appearance of laser bumps. These side effects usually subside within a few hours to 1-3 days.

All laser machine are not made equal. At Ojima Beauty, we aspire to serve our clients using the most powerful state-of-the-art machinery for people of color, the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus – Nd:YAG. We also have Alexandrite laser for lighter skin tones, Fitzpatrick 1-3.

Finding a laser hair removal machine that is safe and effective for darker skin tones can be challenging. Fortunately, our GentleMax Pro Plus machine is equipped with Nd:YAG, which is the BEST laser for darker skin types. Unlike other devices, this laser targets the hair follicles while bypassing the melanin in the skin, reducing the possibility of complications.

Laser hair removal offers long-lasting results with no ingrown hair or irritation, and you will enjoy baby-smooth skin for months to even years. However, it’s important to understand that it’s not a one-time procedure.
After a series of 8-10 treatments, you can achieve near-permanent results, but occasional touch-up sessions, typically once or twice a year, are required to maintain the results. While laser hair removal is not permanent, it still provides long-lasting results, and 1 or 2 treatments per year, as needed, to maintain your results is still a much more convenient option than shaving every other day or waxing every 4-6 weeks. Even if you have some hair growth after some time, the hair is usually finer, softer, and less likely to be noticed, more like peach fuzz.
At Ojima Beauty, clients who purchase treatment packages are enrolled in our maintenance program, with the cost of touch-ups ranging from $75-$150, depending on the size of the treatment area. Remember, you only need to pay for this once or twice per year, as needed.

Yes, you can get laser hair removal if you have tattoos; however we will not laser directly over the tattoo area or any areas where you’ve had tattoo removals. This is because the laser cannot tell the difference between hair pigment and tattoo pigment. Consequently, if we were to treat the tattoo area, the laser will destroy the hair and also destroy your tattoo.

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure and only well trained and licensed medical professionals, nurse practitioners and nurses, with experience in the industry perform the treatment at our center.

Insurance companies typically classify laser hair removal as a cosmetic procedure and not medically necessary. As a result, they do not cover the cost of the treatments. At this moment, I am not aware of any insurance company offering coverage for laser hair removal.
